Friends of the Lost Coast is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for the brave of heart- a early evening hike to King Peak summit, returning beneath the light of the (almost) full harvest moon on Friday, September 9th! At 4088 ft, King Peak is the highest point in King Range National Conservation Area and one of the tallest coastal peaks in the lower 48 States. Experienced hikers should meet at the BLM office in Whitethorn at 4PM to caravan to Lightning Trailhead (4WD recommended). Together, we will hike to the summit, then climb the peak, enjoy the sunset, and start our journey back under the light of the rising moon.
NOTE- This 4.8 mile round trip route includes nearly 2000ft of elevation gain and will be strenuous for some. Returning in the moonlight presents additional risks, a factor that should be considered before embarking on this hike.
Space is limited!- don’t wait to email justin@lostcoast.org to RSVP and reserve your space or get more info.
