Sunday May 15th, 2022 ~ Half Day Oil Pastel Workshop with Brian Czaja Oil pastels are a relatively new medium available to artists today. Oil pastels are quite different from dry pastels, and as such involve new ways of creating a painting.This class is intended to provide an in-depth, hands – on introduction to painting with oil pastels. The class is divided into two parts. The first part will cover the – materials – the types of oil pastels available to artists – papers and painting substrates tools – form fingers to solvents and fixatives techniques – we will practice the basics in using oil pastels from holding, applying pressure to control the types of strokes, controlling color, shaping and blending. I will be doing demos of each tool and technique and will provide simplest help everyone understand how oil pastels can be used. The second part of the class will be using the tools and techniques to create a painting of your own. My goal in this class is to provide you with an understanding of the medium and give you the confidence to create a painting of your own. All materials will be provided and will be taken home by the artists. Also, included will be a hand-out covering all the material that is being presented, plus a list of sources. Each artist should bring the following- – a sketch book, 8×10 or 9×12 – a pencil and eraser – a well- worn dish towel ( used for cleaning hands during class) BIO Brian is a resident of Shelter Cove and has been working with oil pastels for over 15 years. He has exhibited his works in galleries in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Sedona, Arizona, as well as in Shelter Cove. He served as director of the art gallery in Shelter Cove and has led classes in oil pastel painting. $95/ per person
