Built in 1868 to guard Cape Mendocino at the westernmost point of the California, the historic Cape Mendocino lighthouse was relocated to Shelter Cove for restoration in 1999. Today it has a permanent home in Mal Coombs Park at Point Delgada on the west side of Shelter Cove.

With picnic tables and restrooms, Mal Coombs Park is the perfect place to eat to-go food from a nearby restaurant while you enjoy the ocean view. At low tide, the rocky beach below becomes an excellent site for exploring tide pools teeming with marine life.
